Cross-Language Dynamics
The AHRC-funded Open World Research Initative intends to explore and foreground the central role that languages play in relation to key historical and contemporary issues, such as social cohesion, migration, health, business and diplomacy. The initiative seeks to have a significant impact on the study of modern languages in the UK. See more about the Institute of Modern Languages Research's Translingual Strand below:
Fellowships
Located in the heart of Bloomsbury, at the centre of academic and intellectual life in London, the Institute of Modern Languages Research is home to a diverse, international and vibrant community of scholars covering our major language areas.
Every year, we offer a range of opportunities for visiting scholars, with or without funding, to conduct research into any field relevant to the work of the Institute. Applications for 2022-23 now being accepted (closing date: 9 May 2022 (Non-Stipendiary/CLACS ECR; 21 May 2022 (Miller/Naish).
imlr books
The Institute's book series in Modern Languages (French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and comparative studies) now runs to 16 volumes. Volumes are selected by annual competition in the spring/summer. The 2022 competition will close on 12 June 2022.
IMLR Conference Grant Scheme
The IMLR Conference Grant Scheme aims to support the study of modern languages and/or Latin American/Caribbean studies outside London, to promote inter-institutional collaborations, and bring together scholars from the wider region as participants or attendees.
